Sr Anne Lee and Sr Brenda Dorrian were invited to speak to the Catholic Chaplaincy of Oxford University. Every Thursday evening the Students in the Chaplaincy have a Speaker / Discussion evening and this week we were asked to speak about ‘Jewish Christian Relations 50 years after Nostra Aetate.’ The evening started with a delicious meal of Vegetable Lasagne, and then we moved into a beautiful room in the oldest part of the house which dates back to the 17th Century.
The Students were very interested in the relationship between the Church and the Jewish People throughout history, which has often been difficult and painful. With Nostra Aetate, the Declaration on the relationship between the Church and non-Christian Religions, everything changed and in the last 50 years it has become much more positive. The influence of Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict and Pope Francis has been important in the development of the new relationship between the Church and Judaism.
The evening ended with a beautiful time of silent prayer followed by Compline. It was a privilege to be there and to meet such a lively, welcoming and committed group of Catholic Students and their friends.
