Holocaust Memorial Day 2014. Dublin
Holocaust Education Trust Ireland

The annual Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration in Ireland took place in the Mansion House, Dublin on Sunday 26th January.  The evening was organised by the Holocaust Education Trust Ireland.

The commemoration was beautifully presented with readings and reflections on the theme of ‘Learning from the past – lessons for today’. These were interspersed with haunting music played on the piano and clarinet.  There were two particularly poignant moments.  The first was the reciting of names of the family members of Irish Jews who had perished.  This was done so well by students from four local schools.  The second was the lighting of candles to represent the six million Jews, and others who lost their lives in the Shoah.

We were impressed by the large number of people present, and the commitment of the Holocaust Education Trust Ireland and others to educate about the Shoah and its consequences.
